Beads is a reinvention of Mutable Instruments’ Clouds.After Clouds caused quite a bit of polarizing attitudes, Mutable Instruments has taken the concept to the extreme and designed a granular synthesizer that is virtually impossible to use incorrectly and everything you send in comes out almost magically, completely different. The technical details of Beads have been completely overhauled and improved compared to the Clouds module and new ideas like the "attenurandomizer" (attenuator with integrated random generator) promise even more movement in the sound. Following the tradition of Clouds, there are no alternative or deeper granular synthesis methods in Beads, but Beads can be used as a delay and stutter effect and has its own reverb algorithm. Also new is the internal wavetable oscillator based on the Plaits module's wavetable mode. So Beads can be used without an input signal and use the internal oscillator as a basis for granularization. If Beads could power itself, had a speaker built in, and had a self-powered social media posting algorithm, there would be no need for humans on this planet. But since that's not the case, you absolutely need at least one Beads module.
