Ok so this is my first VCF, the Happy Nerding HN VCF, this is just one sound source the Makenoise STO with all 3 outputs mixed before going through the WMD SSF ADSRVCA then onto the HNVCF. Multiple filter outputs tapped and routed to either Monsoon Clouds, Erica DSP or 2hp Verb. There is also a little 2hp Pluck at the start and finish going through clouds. Cheers for listening :)

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

I had to listen your track straight away for a second time, just to make sure... that I was right... and yes I was, again a fantastic track from you :-) Lots of nice sounds and fun to listen at. First I thought I was being at home listening at your music but a bit after 7:30 you hyper-spaced me in somewhere far galaxy horizons!

What just one filter can do with your creativity! Amazing :-)

I really mean this. I recently started to try to record myself some stuff. While playing (and recording it), I seriously enjoyed it, it's a lot of fun to make music. But once I was ready and listening at it in my "listening chair" at what I just recorded, it was just flat boredom, nothing exciting about it... :-(

So that's why I am amazed and I am jealous that you can make so fun sounds and music that's so interesting to listen at! :-)

Well done and kind regards, Garfield.

Again, thats way too complimentary!! Thanks :)

I enjoyed this patch.

All being well my next two modules will be a fairly standard oscillator and some more modulation, the Electrosmith 3340 VCO and the DivKid/Instruo ochd.
Then I need to start thinking about a bit more rack space and looking at some in-rack percussion.

Enjoy your spare HP, don't rush to fill every last space, this is not like filling sticker books. Resist the urge to 'complete' your rack, its never complete so just relax.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Are you sure about in-rack percussion? That might use up quite some (future, new) rack space... Having said that, I got myself Tea Kick module from Bastl Instruments and I am (very) happy with that one, simple but nice and good to use. I am also enjoying Kick_Me from Snazzy FX, also an interesting module, with the clip switch you can change the sound quite a bit, that gives it a certain "bite" to it ;-)

Well good luck with your percussion plans and I look forward in hearing some interesting tracks with your hopefully soon acquired percussion stuff :-) It would be nice to hear from you what you decided on the percussion part.

Kind regards, Garfield.

I'm kinda thinking of options, Put the Roland Boutiques in front of me and I make something like Acid Techno.

I was considering the bottom row of my 'Wish list' that would give the option of more dance like stuff but also give me some bleepy bloopy fluttery bits to sit around a more ambient piece.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Ha, ha, someone only needs to give you the Pluck module and an effects module and you are happy and making fantastic music! :-)

Listening at your latest track, I can hear the happiness that you shine through out the music. If I may compare it with your previous, above track, this latest track is more balanced and in harmony. Don't get me wrong though, your previous track is a good one too, it has a lot of nice surprises on its sleeves for the listener. However if you would ask me to choose between the two, I would go for the latter one.

It's a good relaxing song (this latest one) with an almost kind of Buddha sound-touch to it, so peaceful, so nice to listen at. I don't think I over-exhilarate to say and claim here that this is so far your best track/song!

Very well done, this makes my Sunday a complete, back to earth, and so peaceful in mind experience. Thank you very much for that!

Kind regards, Garfield.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Pull the plugs and delete the files? Are you nuts? ;-) You have to save the files, all the tracks you have done previously, make an album out of it, so we can get a copy too... before you are deleting it... are you serious or was that a joke? :-)

Kind regards, Garfield.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Ah, that's what you meant :-) Yeah I forgot sometimes the con of modular ;-)

Most of the times, even if I got a nice patch, after a while, I am okay to "pull the plugs" as you call it and start all over again with a plain rack without cables, ready for a new sonic experience!

However in your above case, it hurts, knowing that this wouldn't come back, because it's close to impossible to get all the same settings back, perhaps here and there a wrongly patch cable and it's just impossible to get an exact copy of that music back. So I hope you saved the sound file somewhere safely ;-) Or give me a copy of that last track and I will keep that for you safely, kind of backup ;-)

Have fun with modular, enjoy the unplugging of the cables for a next surprise!

Kind regards, Garfield.

Hahaha, I modified the last patch and I'm still playing with it. STO as sound source instead. I've just ordered a couple of Z-Rails so I can add another row so its all going to come apart soon for a reorganise. I'm relatively confident I could recreate the patch even if the patch leads look a right mess which makes use of the Disting's Stereo Tape Delay.
I'm enjoying tapping off a couple of bands on the VCF too and patching to stereo then CV swings the Cut-off Frequency across the stereo field as it swings from BP to LP etc :)
Hopefully getting some money back from the Faulty Rackbrute case I returned so going to get a ADDAC 104 VC T-networks and a DNI Pro Dot drum sequencer for some light fluttery bleepy goodness to mingle with the ambient stuff.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

All right! STO, ADDAC 104 VC T-networks (let me know what you think of it once you have used it for a while, I consider the 103) and Disting's Stereo Tape Delay, wow! This sounds very promising as some superb ingredients for your next track :-)

Thanks for that interesting filter hint about CV swinging between BP and LP, nice idea, got to try that once I find time.

Cheers, Garfield.

I'm tempted by the 103 too, as its cheaper and a bit more available here at the moment, but then i think it would be daft to not get the CV control version.

https://youtube.com/@wishbonebrewery

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Hmm... yes... good point :-) I also like to have some CV control. So from a CV control point of view the 104 is more attractive. The 103 is still attractive for me because of the user interface, the bigger knobs and the layout of this module seems to be better to me. Nicer to use I think but that CV thingy... 104... hmm... yes... you make me hesitating now :-)

Please share your experience with the 104 once you got it and have it tried out for a while, I am very curious!

Thank you and kind regards, Garfield.

I prefer the bigger knobs too, I have lots of 2hp modular gear and the little micro knobs are OK to a point.....!
There is a Robin Vincent Youtube vid about the 104, he loves it....

Then the previous vid about the 103 from Divkid sold it to me anyway!

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Oh yeah! :-) Both videos are nice and fun to watch but totally different approach, had seen indeed before from both persons other demos. Still difficult too choose, but perhaps I might choose in this case the user interface over the CV possibility; not sure yet though.

Thanks for sharing and kind regards, Garfield.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Yes, this is what I needed! After listening here on this forum as well as from my own music collection quite some exciting music, your music is the kind of "closing chapter" for today of listening music. Nice, relaxing and almost kind of inner-healing music to me!

You got there some real nice deep bass sound, pfeew! It's in the middle of the night here and I don't want to get in trouble with my neighbour or worse with my wife, so I have to wait for a daytime opportunity that I can play your track seriously loud and test if I can "drone off" the roof tiles of my roof (I am sitting at the attic and listening to your music). I am pretty sure this bass-sound of yours would be able to pull that off ;-)

Perssonaly, after so nice relaxed 10 minutes and close to twenty seconds, you pulled me a bit off with the end of your track to just cut-off the music like that, other than that, yet another lovely track from you. So thank you very much for sharing that with us :-)

Kind regards, Garfield.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yet another nice track from you :-) You made my day. Listening now for the third time at your track and yet subtle but nice to listen at and nice relaxing too!

Nice picture too! In the middle row of your rack, the 2nd module from the left with those 2 times 4 sliders with a few buttons I guess on the right, what kind of module is that? A dual EG or something like that? Nice to use module?

So this forgotten and found-back jewel... how many more of this kind of nice stuff you have laying around and forgot to post it? ;-)

I want: More! More! More! :-D

Kind regards, Garfield.

Thanks again :)

The Sliders module is the Pittsburgh Modular MicroSequence, its mainly just used as my clock source, it has a cycle that has a probability of a 'rest' so I can start off with a slightly wonky clock. I've not really been using it as the Pitch/gate sequencer it is intended to be though i can see me using it differently as my system slowly lets me experiment with more styles. I do use the Pitch CV to modulate other modules.

Nice track again, especially the line and inflexions of the main voice (STO?). Which modules did you use to conduct this voice? Micro Sequence only? BTW, interesting to see your wish list (and right choice about Marbles), but would be more helpful to see the details of you current 3 rows.

'On ne devrait jamais quitter Montauban' (Fernand Naudin).

MicroSequence runs the clock
Clock divided
2hp Euclid then opens and closes the envelope controlling the Freq and Res on a VCF
2hp Turing machine and Tune control all the Pitches
STO is split off to: 2hp Verb / Erica Pico DSP / Monsoon Clouds
There is also a little 2hp Bell in there which goes through the Stereo Tape Delay on the Disting MK4
Mostly mixed with the Befaco STMIX

Thank you for sharing. It's easier to understand the way you work with the instrument you build.
I have listened to your track several times with the patch in mind. Very interesting and beautiful piece!

A few questions:
- Are you fully satisfied with the 2hp TM, and why not have chosen the Music Thing Modular? (I personally use Marbles...)
- 2hp Euclid, same question :) Completely satisfied? Did you hesitate with another module like Euclidean Circles?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
With kind regards.

Just had a chance to listen to and read through this post. Some amazing stuff you are doing which is a great inspiration for someone like myself who is just taking those first shakey steps into modular synthesis, so thank you for this!

Random question but is this the Wishbone Brewery where Oli, who used to work at Cap and Collar, works?

I'm happy with the 2hp TM, I didn't choose the Music Thing because I am trying to keep a compact setup (This has its pros and cons). I quite fancy a Marbles sometime.
2hp Euclid, same reasoning and the price is a lot cheaper than Euclidean Circles. I've got a DNI pro DOT on order and that has 3 channels of Euclidean sequences.

A Note to GarfieldModular and Defragmenteur.

I've gone for the Big Knobs and ordered a 103! I've already got a lot of small knobbed modules..... who knows though, if I enjoy the 103 enough, maybe a 104 later.
I've just started playing with the DNIPRO DOT and it looks like it's going to be the perfect companion.

Hi Garfield, the 103 Arrived today, I can see this being lots of fun :) Just playing with the pure drum vibe its fun.

Nice @wishbonebrewery, I need to find a disting but they're MIA everywhere right now! One takeaway from your rack that I'll give you kudos on is how much you've prioritized smaller modules. I took a look at mine after seeing yours and was like "Everything's too big!!" I need to reevaluate my next steps

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Yeah! I wish you lots of fun with the 103 :-)

@troux My thinking is now.... 'Everything is too small or My fingers are too fat' I am trying to keep things compact. Though seeing as I'm on my 3rd Row of 84hp and my Wishlist of modules is about another 3 rows... I'm not sure how compact it will eventually be! Ha!

Here's the latest ambient track/loop/thing now with added ADDAC103, this is how I want to use it for little clicky blippy stuff, though you do get a nice Kick drum out of it too to annoy the wife with ;-) I need to restrain Ochd, so some bits are going through the AT-AT-AT to tame them down a bit, I probably need to look at getting a Passive Half/Full wave rectifier too.

Cheers

The latest patch + Roland TR-09

I've been Tap-clocking the Pittsburgh Microsequence to use as my main clock source, this isn't ideal and I'd like to get something like Pam's Workout to have as a main clock. In the meantime I thought I should try using the TR-09 as main clock then into the Divider and divide down to slow-clock the MicroSequence for some longer gate times.
Kinda just fooling with the TR-09 played in live varying the patterns on the fly.

Cheers for listening.

Hi Wishbonebrewery,

Oh yes! After Troux (see his post here in the You section as well) let me travel with "my spaceship" (I wish that was true) into space at an undefined destination. I was just about to arrive at my space-destination when Troux album was finished. Luckily I took your track with me on this space journey as well. So I hit the button and wow, I am now beyond our galaxy, not really knowing where I am to be honest, but enjoying your music while travelling here in the dark with here and there a star-light at the horizon ;-)

At about 3:00 you kind of hyper-spaced me even further, that hand-clap rhythm is nicely done! And further down the track that's getting nicer and nicer.

You bring me so far into the outer space that the Internet connection is getting weak here, so I must hurry sending this post before you even hyper-space me where no longer Internet is possible ;-)

Thanks a lot for sharing this, enjoying this a lot and kind regards, Garfield.
