Bear Amps Heavier Metal

Chainsaw distortion

Taking the HM-2 circuit to new levels with a layout that uses high gain/low noise-floor modern amplifier principles and the HIGHEST quality parts and materials from 60's NOS russian germanium diodes to the newest Gørva Mechano switches, tdk/epcos capacitors and vishay resistors. Hand placed and assembled with through hole components.
The main goal was to give the eq the adjustment to mimic the vast tolerance ranges that so many old HM2 will have when set to their fully clockwise "chainsaw" setting, but the last 10% of the stock HM2 eq range has been expanded to provide fine control of that range across the whole knob sweep. This gives you eq peak adjustment without losing the chainsaw response!
Goal number two was to exploit the tendency to fuzz and squelch the high frequencies that occurs depending on the pickups and signal path used, that led to the development of the low pass limiting control that I've labelled "quench". Fully clockwise this effect is completely engaged and the low frequency fuzz and bloom effect is exaggerated to an extreme, Fully counterclockwise and it is out of circuit.
The load switch in the up position rolls off excess input noise and lowers the input impedance even further for a tighter and modern response, while the clipping lift switch alters the output voice, subtly lowering the high frequency response and cleaning up the low frequencies without losing any of the chainsaw response, yet becoming more bass friendly and passing sub lows unclipped, this is why I do not include a bypass blend control as it's unnecessary and a bypass blend will always color the tone no matter how well it's designed .
Although this has the lowest noise floor of any HM2 derived product on the market I've included send and return jacks in the sweet spot of the circuit for adding a key-input noise gate. another feature of the loop is that it is pre-eq, you can plug any effect output into the return jack and output the eq through the out jack, the eq and level controls will operate in this routing configuration, the other controls will go into standby.
