Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, has a thick atmosphere able to carry sound waves. An atmospheric and clamorous inspiration to our series of Titan modules…

For a long time, we’ve imagined the music of the space to be a sweet song of gods, crystalline magical sounds. We thought space to be a silent place, cold and empty. Since 2004, the Cassini-Huygens mission has been making sound recordings in space, different from anything we had imagined; shocks of particles at a prodigious speed, a deep unsettling chaos. The ESA/NASA has referred to theses recordings as "alien sounds"… The Cassini-Huygens mission started the exploration of Titan in 2007

The Capsule Titan is an immersive experimentation, delving into the mysteries of space through the medium of sound design and music. In a way, the Capsule Titan is a simulation station able to reproduce the journey of the sound waves crossing Titan’s dense, orange atmosphere and offer the possibility to modulate parameters like the thickness of the haze, the ionisation of the magnetosphere, and Titan’s magnetic glow (or low frequency zones). To amplify these sounds, we’ve chosen a discrete amplification

The Capsule Titan is a station composed of 7 modules:
- 2 TITAN discrete oscillators
- 1 MAGNETOSPHERE: 24 dB discrete filter
- 1 SOMMATEUR: mixer
- 1 A. D. discrete amp
- 1 RAYONNEMENT envelope
-1 ZONE B.F. : 2 x LFOs
- MIDI interface: Centre De Controle (outputs are T1 and T2 = V/Oct 1 and 2, P1 and P2 = gate 1 and 2)

The Titan is hard wired so you can start to use it as a synthesiser with minimal patching. The sawtooth and square waves of the two oscillators are wired directly into the first 4 channels of the mixer. The output of the mixer is wired to the input of the filter, the output of the filter to the input of the VCA and the output of the envelope to the Mod2 input of the VCA. Patching the system breaks these connections giving you a flexible system with or without patching. The MIDI interface and built in power on the rear of the Capsule Titan is the same design as the Centre De Controle module, so please refer to the Centre De Controle page to learn the different modes of operation. The Centre De Controle is also pre-patched through the bus - so there is no need to patch in the Tension (V/Oct) and Porte (Gate) outputs for basic MIDI control
