4 channel mixer with additional auxiliary channel

An extremely useful module, this mixer allows you to mix 5 audio or CV signals, with a level control for the first 4 inputs, onto a single output. This module only takes up 4HP so is ideal in smaller systems, but also has an auxiliary input which allows multiple mixers to be daisy chained together for distributed mixing throughout a larger system.

Why we Created This Module

We have several mixers in our main eurorack system, and we felt there were a couple of things we wanted to improve.

First of all, when we set up a smaller system we often found we didn’t have quite enough space for one of our existing 4 channel mixers so we wanted to make one that was smaller but still had 4 main inputs.

Secondly, in our larger case we often end up with a mixer on each row. This works well, but they all need to eventually be connected to an output mixer. This means you either have to run each row’s mixer into a separate input channel of the output mixer, or you have to daisy chain them together which uses up 1 input channel on each mixer. To solve this problem we’ve added an auxiliary input without a volume knob, which allows you to run the output of one mixer into the aux input on the next mixer without wasting one of the valuable main channels! This doesn’t just work with our mixers, you can route any other mixer into the aux input.
What Is This Module?

This module takes 4 signals in its main input channels, allows you to adjust the volume and then mix them together. There is also an auxiliary input channel without a volume control.

This module is DC coupled so you can pass in CV signals as well as audio signals. The module is available with linear or logarithmic (often mislabelled as exponential) potentiometers. Linear potentiometers are normally recommended for mixing CV signals and Logarithmic potentiometers are recommended for audio signals as they better match the human perception of volume. This choice only affects the response curve of the volume controls and either can be used for mixing both types of signals.

The main draw of this module is that it is extremely compact and that multiple mixers can easily be connected together. This is a very versatile module which takes up very little space.
What Isn’t This Module?

This isn’t a large performance mixer. Due to its small size the knobs are quite close together and there are no extra features like mutes or fx sends.
How It's Made

Final assembly of all of our modules is done by hand, by us in Cambridge, England.

Some of our modules have surface mount (SMD) components already populated when we get the PCBs. We then add the remaining SMD components and hand solder them, and finally hand solder all of the through hole (THT) components.

Once the module is assembled we will do any additional setup such as flashing the firmware and calibrating the module before testing that everything works as it should.

We are very careful to select good quality components, especially for the mechanical components. We always use high quality Alpha potentiometers, Thonkiconn jacks and high quality switches.
