My best Answer to this is Grone 2 by Maneco Labs. It always just leaves this subtle texture in the background. None of the CV ins and outs seem to act predictably. It always leaves me with the eary background vibe I want though.

Second to that, I would say Moskwa 2 if it counts as opinionated. Such a fun way to make sequences, and havent seen much else like it.

Normally, having more than one oscillator in a small case is a but much, but for drones it's good to have an oscillator for FM usage or just running them together and getting contrasts from them. In a drone synth, at least two oscillators that can interact with one another will go a long way.

A filter might be a good addition as well. Make sure it's ergonomic for you.

There are a variety of good dedicated drone modules/synths, ranging from the Grendel Drone Commander 2 to the Eowaves Weather Drones to something standalone like the Stylophone GS-2. Even a synth not necessarily sold as a drone synth like a Moog Mavis (which can be both racked or kept in its own case) or other all-in-one device can be the basis of a great drone setup, and they have the benefit of combining a bunch of obvious tools in a smaller form factor so you can focus the rest of your case on more personal choices.

Overall, a "drone synth" is one of those things that really comes down to what you want. Can you think of examples of the sorts of sounds you have in mind? Drones can take many forms.

By this small casesize maybe only one envelope/Lfo-combo, just stages or tides?

Maybe drop the Milton for a Pams and a 3x MIA?
Something like a Mimeophon or Nautilus?

Hello, looking for some patch ideas for the Turing Machine based on my setup. I can't seem to get anything very dynamic with it. I have followed some things I have seen online, but most patch ideas seem to involve very specific modules. I have tried to keep my rack as generic as possible. Would love any advice based on my weirdly random setup.

One thing I would appreciate:

In pedalmode when yo create a pedalboard-rack - the possibility to add own created eurorack-racks as part of the pedalboard.

Like adding a small 60 or 84 hp 3u case as part of a hybrid live setup with pedals and synths.

It would be great to have categories added for Spectral and Granular to the Function drop-down

So, I have launched FlatSix Modular, and my first offering is the 'Slight Of Hand'. A play on words of the phrase "Sleight of hand" due to its "slight" footprint, Slight Of Hand is a 1u (Intellijel format) Eurorack module that functions as a monophonic CV keyboard. Designed to be extremely playable with responsive, light-touch, tactile switches for keys, a wide portamento/slew range which is adjustable in real-time, as well as octave up and down buttons, it's a perfect way to get hands on with your live performances.

I intend to open-source it on my GitHub in the future (probably by September 2024) to give back to the DIY community who have been so amazing to me over the years.

I am now happy with the VCV oscilloscope. I pulled a 4 channel and can do exactly what I want with it. I just use the zoom from the view. However, it is also a mystery to me why such a thing does not exist as a screen-filling standalone version. For a programmer, this should be a coffee night to realize something like this - and for a modular, an incredibly useful visual tool for understanding his nerdy envelopes inspired.

Listen on the VCA output.

This extends the basick Kick Drum patch by adding some variation in frequency and gate pattern. With a smaller range coming out of Rene's CV out, it can give some subtle variation. With a larger range, it can sound more like kick drums mixed with toms and possibly snares.

Ensure that the Envelope is long enough to hear, but short enough that it finishes before the next clock pulse.

Experiment with

• Gate pattern on Rene's X channel
• CV (knobs) on Rene's X channel
• If you are having trouble noticing any changes to CV or Gate pattern, try using a shorter sequence by selecting the active steps on the Access page of Rene.
• Envelope fall time
• FM depth on VCO (oscillator), by adjusting the FM attenuator on the VCO. Try in both the positive and negative. direction
• Frequency of VCO

Advanced

• On the Quant page of Rene's X channel, experiment with the CV voltage range. This is set by the top row. Step 1 is 1V, Step 2 is 2V, Step 3 is 3V, Step 4 is 5V. Play with the CV/knob values, and then try each voltage setting, to see how it affects the kick drum frequency.

Listen on the VCA output.

The envelope opens up the VCA, and at the same time is used to FM the VCO

Experiment with:
- envelope fall time
- FM depth on VCO (oscillator), by adjusting the FM attenuator on the VCO. Try in both the positive and negative. direction
- Frequency of VCO

Unfortunately, I have to report back with negative opinions: none of the oscilloscopes linked above are, IMO, suitable for monitoring signals like a Mordax DATA or VCV's Scope can do, they are like most VST oscilloscopes I've tried, focused on monitoring audio waveforms specifically.
I'm reverting back to VCV, until someone finally comes along and makes a better one. If I'm desperate enough, I might pull the VCV code and see if I can make my own version that allows zooming...

Merged a lot of duplicates today and added over 30 missing brands.

I currently use VCV's oscilloscope but the inability to resize to full screen is a real bummer.

Moved the entire site to a new server

The entire site and the screenshot server moved to a new faster server. It's now cloud everything 16 core/64GB RAM with SSDs and whatnot. All the server software (Linux, PHP, SQL, ...) was updated, we have a web firewall, the screenshot software was rebuild from ground. Still some hiccups here and there but overall it went well.
We lost the www in front of www.modulargrid.net. The site is now just modulargrid.net (as if anyone would ever notice).

I like the marbles a lot.
I guess its the most complex and easy to use random module, while you have Instant access by tweaking knobs.
If you understand it you can archieve incredible results.

The selfpatching abilities are great and you can get endless evolving random cv and gates.

The fact that it is like a kind of turing maschine comes really handy and makes it very playable.

Another idea cold be clank chaos.
Chaos seems to me more drastic and chaotic. You get a chaotic random mess and can thin out the chaotic cv and gate results afterwards to fit it to be less what you not want and to be more musically.
It has also a cv looping feature and got a sequencer ability in the new firmware.

I have both and enjoy them.

I use the marbles to dial in controlled random for basic and dominant functions. The chaos I use for glitchy, unpredicted and wild random.

Or Maybe, since the format is quite similar to MU, just add the brand Roland officially on the format and 191j rack picture so we can participate by adding the modules information one by one.

Perhaps describing Marbles as a "menu dive-y" module is not a great description, rather "feature-rich" would be better. The more I watch tutorials on the thing the more I begin to understand all its components. I can see how many of the functions are incredibly useful, but in practice with my particular rack, there are quite a few I would not have a use for, in my head at least. The thing that gravitated me towards the Mavis/TTxB modules in the first place was how simple and straight-forward their design and function was, as in "this particular module does this and this only."

I would say I'm more open to the idea of a Marbles than I was before, but still skeptical. Maybe y'all can convince me all the way haha!

I would like to visualize complex Lfo or envelope curves from my Eurorack in Ableton. Is there a virtual VST/Max for life (4 Channel) oscilloscope that can represent these slow courses? Like a Max Data but as an plugin?

Volca Drum can be a performance tool.
There is no really annoying menu diving.

From XAOC website: Current draw: +50mA / –50mA

The Microfreak might be a good synth option. Tons of synth engines (including Plaits and Noise Engineering sounds), a decked out mod matrix, and a few sample-based synth options to do some of the more complex sample manipulating/playing elements from the Blackbox as well. 4 voices and an analog filter to top it all off. Hard to beat in a smaller setup - especially when it's so tactile.

If you want something based around modal:samples

I would go for a Volca FM rather than the drum - you can make loads of drum sounds with the Volca FM and all the synth sounds too.

Possibly a bit harder to grok, but imho it is always worth learning how to do FM well.

The Mood after the Volca FM will be excellent - while the FM sounds great as it is, the Mood will make it sound like a proper class synth.

Then maybe a end of chain compressor before your recorder. Something like an RNLA will work wonders.

Edit: just realised the modal:samples doesn't have an 'in', so the end of chain compressor doesn't make much sense without a mixer.

Softpop 2 is quiet expensive (I will leave it out)

Right now Im thinking like this:

drums: elektron: samples + volca drum (remove the dfam)
FX: Mood MK II (reverb, delay, looper, granular)
small synth voice: ?
small mixer: Bastl Bestie?

I could add a bluebox and blackbox later, but still to expensive right now.

For a groovebox-oriented setup, powerful but without too much complexity, the choice of Model:Samples seems excellent to me. And, at a lower cost, I would add a Volca Drum for totally different sounds. This amazing little box is like a small percussive synthesizer. And indeed, I would complete with the Blackbox for an opening towards wider sampling. Plus your DFAM... let the show begin!

Two samplers seems like a lot. Maybe that's just me. You'd probably get more out of a Bluebox than a Blackbox here.

I have only the moog DFAM and the Mood MK II FX-Pedal.

The rest are just ideas for additional stuff I would have to buy.

Are these pieces of gear in the setup things that you already have, or do you have to buy this stuff?

Im thinking about to take a break from modular for the moment
things start to become to big and complex for my brain right now (while I have to focus on other non musical stuff)

For the meanwhile:
Im looking for a small performance setup which is small and easy, maybe just focusing on up to 3 devices or so.

So im asking for some ideas and tips for a non modular or hybrid setup - maybe some groovebox or drummaschine oriented setup. minimalistic, easy to use without to much brain cells involved :D

Thanks for asking, initially I would be looking for someone who would buy all of them in one go.

Although, I realise this is asking a lot!

I am not desperate, but if it comes to separating them out, I would do the same with all my listings and set prices at an average based on past selling prices here and elsewhere, fair. I am always open to (sensible) offers too!

p.s. everything is mk II except the polivoks stuff and the mk I Double Andore of course!
