Are there any similar modules using NOS chips? I'm pretty tired of clones and "almost there" and want the real things to be honest. Like an actual SSM2044 for Eurorack. Or a BA662A in Eurorack format. I have had pretty great results with the MUM-M8 which is based on the S950 style AKAI filters too.

AMsynths has a lot of stuff with NOS ICs, including BA662, BA6110, SSM2044. I dont think MUM M8 actually uses any NOS chips, it sounds unique cuz it uses a switched-capacitor filter IC.

Don't know why 20-30 year old chips sound better than whatever current tech can put out to be honest. I quiet never heard anything like a real IR3109 with todays tech. Or vintage Moog.

The difference is literally the parts aging and going off-spec, the method of production for modern synths and ICs isn't all that different to what it was 30 years ago, at least not in a way that would affect the sound. Of course some digital stuff sounds great cuz it's 12 or 8 bit but it's easy to replicate that nowadays. in 30 years all the modern synths will have a different sound too

Totally agree. Especially since I have a v low income, I couldn't dream of dropping >1000$ on an instrument that I didn't know how to use (my modular is DIY'ed over a span of years). So it does frustrate me when I see people playing music on expensive gear while CLEARLY not knowing the half of what they're doing. The number of times I've seen beginners on expensive synth setups who don't even know about concepts like headroom, noise levels etc is way too high. Music gear is a finite resource, so no matter how much you can afford, it's still not cool to hoard unused gear in ur basement or misuse it.

You could do an FX rack and process one of your hardware/software synths through it. There's lots of really capable effects in eurorack and you can get creative with custom feedback loops and modulation without having to hook up a million different pedals. Like everyone else has said, eurorack is an expensive way to create a polysynth that's probably disadvantaged compared to regular polysynths, but sticking to FX, samples or monophony might scratch your itch for sound design.

Its fine to just daisy chain a flying bus cable, as long as the power supply can provide enough amps, and the it won't be a problem (the same goes for AC power strips, although if ur already using up the power, obviously you can't magically get more by adding another) I reckon it might be better to install a passive bus board, I just looked in the manual and theres mounting holes for a few different manufacturers' bus boards. They're still pretty cheap, and lots of people prefer them for noise/convenience reasons, it's a bit nicer to plug modules into a fixed port than one thats dangling on another cable. But yeah daisy chaining them is fine and won't cause any serious issues

Gate sequencing should be fine, remember that Zadar, Stages and Maths will all be able to introduce delays or additional rhythmic pulses controllable by CV, as well as acting as envelopes. One thing I'd remember is that if you're planning to use radio music as a sampler, it works well for continuous samples (such as atmospherics or voice clips) but doesn't play so nice as a drum sampler, the timing is not very tight on the reset, but I've seen people do it like that so depends how much you care about timing i guess.

I've noticed a lot of one off, custom DIY modules and alternate panels for other modules, or modules that aren't yet available at all. I always make my modules unlisted unless im making them somehow available as a product. I feel like the ppl making these listings probably just dont realise the 'unlisted' button is there. So wouldn't it make more sense to default it to unlisted? ofc if they really wanna show off their custom blank panels they can just go edit and change it ay.

I feel like custom blank panel functionality shud be extended somehow, or maybe tick the "don't show in search" box by default. when i see softcore furry porn women uploaded to the front page of search as a synth decoration it just looks misogynistic to me. especially unnecessary since it seems to b one random persons blank panel.

Looks like there are two "In A"s on the front panel, shouldnt the right one be "In B"?

What are you using this for?
Also I suggest you organise things that are already there a bit better first, it seems a bit random. For example the linix should probably be next to the audio interface. It will be a bit easier to see what you're doing that way.
Also is the bottom row supposed to be blank except brains or has the site glitched?

It wouldn't be difficult to make a 2hp clock module, but I'm guessing OP isn't into DIY

He would need to clock the a-149, control two channels of optomix, 2 channels of vca and several dpo destinations, let alone modulate the modulation with self patching.

Actually you're right - I didn't realise the A-149 required external clock.

That said the new suggestion looks great too. If you want to clock the A-149 without using a Maths you could add a dedicated clock module (if there was one that would fit into that 2hp (?) bit on the top right it'd be great, but I don't think that exists.)
Maybe the Ginko Synthese Tap LFO which has a clock out as well as a pretty complex LFO?
The Echophon would mean you can process external input with the modular, which would give more utility for sure.

Either way trust Exper's advice over mine. I only have about 16hp of Eurorack so far and I'm basically a passionate noob in the world of physical modular synthesis. I go by nothing but experience in SunVox and computer synthesis.

I'd think a bit about the Quadra + Expander + Maths all in the same rack, as Quadra + Expander will duplicate a lot of Maths functionality. They'll match really well together, I think, but unless you're looking to do complex west coast generative patches you don't really need 6 LFOs / EGs to control a DPO. Of course you could get both and sell whichever one if you don't need it though, which is the best way if you can afford it.
